RESIDENTIAL RENOVATION

Country Club Hills

An existing 1930s Tudor Revival house in Arlington, Virginia had an addition from the 1970s that failed to provide the current owners with the convenience, beauty, or spaciousness that they were looking for.

The owners wanted to tear down the addition and start over, an expensive proposition. Instead, we suggested reworking the existing spaces: moving the kitchen and breakfast room to a new addition at the side of the house and creating new, larger spaces within the old addition by removing existing walls, partitions, and dividers.

The new spaces open onto a deck that spans the full width of the house and is covered in areas with a beautiful pergola that creates a series of outdoor rooms. From these rooms, the deck spills effortlessly down a generous stairway to the garden below, connecting the house with the yard as never could be done previously.
