Lake Elevation
Front Elevation

NEW CONSTRUCTION

Austin

In this 5,000 square foot house on a lake in the Hill Country of Texas, the traditional forms and materials of rural Texas are used in creative ways. Local stone and wood are used together to create an open, breezy wrap-around porch along the lakefront, while the street front has a more traditional, formal massing.

The street elevation uses small openings in response to the strong southern Texas sunlight, while the lakefront façade has large windows and doors to provide both passive cooling and views to the lake.

The plan includes are large beamed-ceiling living room and a circular office anchors the plan at the corner of the site; the windows of which are oriented toward the view of the lake and hill country beyond.

The overall site includes a pool, boathouse, and pergola; the imagery of each of these are derived from the character of the main house and from the traditions of local Texas residential design seen throughout the Hill Country near Austin.
